This process of naming is called Izo-Idayi.

The most elderly person in the family performs the naming ceremony rights not necessarily the parents of the child. The process of the naming goes with various ingredients which have varied significance.

  • Water - Has no enemy & boundary
  • Palm oil - neutrality for poisons
  • Dry fish - Productivity
  • Ose-oji - boldness to resist intimidation
